Full Description

El Atardecer tour starts at 3:30 pm at the entrance of Secreto del Bosque; we will take a few minutes to know each other and give the instructions we need to follow to enjoy this adventure.

The sunset in the Magdalena Medio is a mixture of singing, sounds, breeze, and movement as the forest and its inhabitants prepare for the night.

Once on the ground, it's time to get cameras and binoculars ready to start our experience walking along a dirt road where we will observe the natural landscape of the Magdalena Medio, as well as some birds, probably hawks, while we arrive at our restoration project which was developed under the Route of the Jaguar macro project.

Once on the restoration area, we will learn about the different species of trees that we have planted, which are the basis of the tropical rainforest. The objective of the restoration is to plant native trees that will regenerate the ecosystem and allow it to become once again the habitat of an umbrella species such as the jaguar (an umbrella species is a thermometer of the health of the forest and means that if the ecosystem is suitable for its existence, it is also suitable for more species such as deer, capybaras, sloths, anteaters, curassows, ocelots, etc...).

We will conclude the tour at San Juan stream, which has played a fundamental role in the conservation of the species we can see today in the region. We will walk along its course and with luck, we will be able to observe some of its inhabitants, such as turtles, iguanas, Chachalacas, river otters, and the shy Red Howler Monkey, as it moves through the bamboo grove with its family at dusk, looking for a place to spend the night.

We will end the tour at the San Juan stream, which has played a fundamental role in the conservation of the species that we can see today in the region. We will walk along its course and with luck, we may observe some of its inhabitants such as turtles, iguanas, guacharacas, river otters, and the curious but elusive Gray-headed Tamarin, an endemic species of the region that is in danger of extinction due to habitat loss and illegal trafficking.

By visiting us, you will be supporting this initiative and we hope that you can share the knowledge you will acquire with others, so that we can generate awareness and take necessary actions from the possibilities and situations of each person.

You will be accompanied by the SDBD team all the time; The SDBD team will guide you and share experiences during this activity. The approximate duration of this activity is 2.5 hours.

Important: We believe in the beauty and perfection of nature, which is why we do NOT allow the reproduction of artificial sounds. Therefore, each experience will be unique and challenging because we will seek to find the largest number of birds in their 100% natural environment. We try to minimize our intervention in the ecosystem, so we cannot guarantee the sighting of any specific species during the tour. Each species is magical, and we invite you to be surprised by each of the inhabitants of the Secreto del Bosque Doradal.
